JCVI member: Decision based on risk-benefit balance

Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) member Prof Adam Finn says the decision not
to recommend rolling out the vaccine to healthy children under 15 was based on a "risk-benefit balance".

without having to travel to play to a real casino

The professor of paediatrics at the University of Bristol says: "Although the vaccine works and would be
beneficial in the sense of preventing infection and some severe disease from Covid, there are significant
uncertainties around the safety of the vaccine that have not yet been clarified such that we can't be sure
that the risk-benefit balance is sufficiently good in favour and to the benefit of those children to
recommend it."

He says the large majority of severe cases in children - and the very small number of deaths in the age
group - occurred in children who were "identifiably at high risk because of other medical conditions",
which is why the vaccine is being rolled out to more of these children.
